VT was down here and played golf with me during the M.B. Bike Rally week.
He let me know that the "zone" was up and running again. So here I am.
On another topic that may interest you. Many yrs ago, you and I used to chat about Chevys and rear gear ratios.
I just went thru a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng ordeal with a gear swap on my SSR.
Typically, when u make a gear swap, a "savvy" tuner shop can take their lap top and plug in and alter some parameters and make your speedo correct again to reflect accurate speeds.
I had a 456 ratio put in and a shop in Raleigh was supposed to be able to "tune" my ECM and make the speedo correct. Long story short, that did not work. So I pulled out the ECM ( A real pain in the azz) to take out and sent it to a guy in Ohio who had successfully altered them to get the speedo correct before.
He calls me and says.......my ECM is "locked" and he cannot get into it. Says whomever "tuned" it must have used a password and of course he doesn`t know what it is.
Next step was I found a source in my State.....that says they can "unlock" a ECM. Had the Ohio guy send the ECM to him and the N.C. guy says......it`s not locked and i was able to access it.
So..........I says (Can u modify whatever and make my speedo read correctly for the new gear set).....He thinks he can and I said go for it.
That didn`t work either.
On my SSR forum, someone mentioned that Dakota Digital had a unit that could modify your speedo. This unit was only $80 and the Ohio guy wanted $265 to modify my ECM and the N.C. guy was only charging me $100.
(All of which I got back via credit).
Bottom line, I bought a Dakota Digital unit and after many unsuccessful tries, I now have it working "dead on" perfect via a comparison with my GPS unit and "cruise control" locked in at a certain speed.
Went through a lot of hassle with (ABS and Check your Brake contro module) messages on the dash display.........but with a couple of savvy wiring guys on my SSR forum, we figured a way to (wire around) the signal to the ABS system and get an accurate speedo reading.
