February 10, 2015He is probably looking at them 5 motorcycles and several cars in front of your house. You are like me you are vehicle poor, I myself have two cars a truck and two motorcycles in my name. whatever way ya`ll decide to go, I hope Willys and Bitwas builds turn out great.

February 10, 2015My budget for this project was $2,000. For that I was hoping to do the cams,a tuner and a new exhaust. With Dave doing the cams and me doing the rest. I can see that is not happening so I`ll skip the exhaust.
I agree with Trip the lifters should be replaced. That will add labor cost but reusing the original pushrods will help keep the overall cost down.
I think I will roll the dice and order the gear drives and hope the runout is within the guidelines. Worst case I can send them back, I just don`t want to be clogging up Dave`s shop all winter.
So Trip,back to the cams. This bike is used for hauling Linda and I around with a full load.Together we are 350lbs plus gear. From what I read the S&S 510s are a great cam but come on strong at around 3,000rpm and make power all the way to 6,000.I generally cruise at 3,200-3,400 with this bike. I have a bike that I do run hard but this one is the family truckster. Should I still go with the 510s?
February 10, 2015The 510,s come on about 1800-2000 depending on heads...the 203,s are good for a two up bagger also... both benefit from opened heads but will work ok without..just bring compression up to 9.5 ... VT...theres only one way to build a reliable , fast Harley engine...... problem is...EVERYBODYS a Harley Mechanic nowadays...and 99% of em don`t know schitt.
February 11, 2015That sounds like the 510s will work just fine then. I`ve got the 203s in my 95" Road King and like them as well. The .3 head gasket will get me to 9.5 compression? Is it true I can use Chevy lifters?
I may have to pass on the new cam plate and oil pump due to my budget limitations. I will order the other parts this weekend, going with the 510 gear drive kit.

Also - You can take Trips advice to the bank. Just my two-cents after spending some time with him twice. Also - you`ll need to ride down and visit him some day.
February 11, 2015Trip, I do not fall into that 99% category, because I know I am not a Harley Mechanic. But I do fall into the category of I do not know schitt!!!! Don`t bother me none, I can read a shop manual, and I am somewhat mechanically inclined, and I am a cheap azz, so I just try to do my own work, I admit I do not know schitt, but I have learned a lot about Harleys over the past 12 years ,trying to do the work myself. I just got tired of paying other people to do work and then having to redo it myself anyway. I learned quite a bit working on that 107 ci stroker on Bev`s chopper, I was working on that thing constantly, one thing after another just kept phucking up......
February 11, 2015gmc I agree with what you say about Trips advice. I have read a lot of different opinions but I`ll go with his recommendations on this. One of my first trips this spring will be to ride down to my sons place in Scottsdale, not sure how close that is to Bagdad AZ.
I also have a lot of faith in EOD and this bike will be a sweet running little 88.
February 11, 2015I might fall into the 99% non-wrenchers too. Sounds like ya`ll have it worked out. Are you getting a thinner head gasket? Cometic is good for their selection.
I`ll have to get some spaced in the shop cleared out. It will be a week or so before I can work it in.
Its a quick ride from Scottsdale to Prescott. Its barely 45 minutes to an hour from my place to Triplate`s so it wouldn`t be another 20 or so from a Scottsdale onramp.
February 11, 2015I`ll order all the parts on Sat. EOD probably figure a week to get them. You just let me know what time works for you I am not in a big hurry I have another one I can ride. Yes I`ll order the head gasket but I think Chevy small block lifters will work and I can get them locally.
February 11, 2015Hey Boys! Ive been busy lately but check in now and again. Work is good and I am spending all the time I can getting my 45 up and running. I got it together but its running like schitt. Trip has been giving me some advice. I ordered new plugs, wires and condenser. I hope this fixes the issue and I can ride before the heat kicks on. Anyway-Just wanted to say hey and I hope everyone is doing well.
