8 weeks agoHave you guys noticed that over the last 20 years that something called an SUV has been `invented`? Whatever they are they certainly are not sporty, they are not utility as they won`t hold a sheet of plywood, and anymore most of them aren`t even big enough to be called a vehicle. Not too long ago we had real station wagons that held nine people or if you put two seats down were quite utility. The Chevy suburban and the Ford expedition are still pretty good things. The world is slowly going back to station wagons.
8 weeks agoI don`t know if Ford is making the Excursion anymore McG, but it was bigger than the Sub. Most SUVs are just little mall crawlers now.

Dave, I think they quit making the Excursion in 2011 0r 2012. Those were 1 ton vehicles and some had the V10 engine in it. I still see one occasionally out on the road, they had lots of torque for towing campers and other types of trailers and boats.
One thing about the Excursion that I do know is the fuel economy on them was so bad, that is in my mind the main reason they quit manufacturing them. I guess people just quit buying them.
I mad another post in here saying I was wrong about the year they quit making the Excursion. The last one built in the US was in 2005, and they were produced in Mexico after that until 2007.
8 weeks agoThis 2015 VelociRaptor Is Basically A New Ford Excursion With 650 HP
8 weeks agoI didn`t know when the quit making them. They got **** for mileage, just like my 1999 2500 Suburban with a 454. 10-12mpg and that`s empty or loaded. I love it though!
8 weeks agoYes the EXcursion was ford motors stab at competing with the 2500 suburban according to the article that I read. I do not like those big gas hogs myself, do not have a need for one. My Tundra 4x4 is bad enough on gas, it only averages about 15 - 16 MPG. My old caddy I bought las year is much better on gas, it gets 19-20 around town and 25-26 out on the road. So the truck gets to sit in the driveway a lot. It has 241,800 miles on it now, and still looks pretty good and runs real good.

My Avalanche is in the shop to drop the gas tank. Smoke test last week shows leakage above the tank. So gotta get it fixed as check engine light shows a severe emissions leak. I replaced the 3 recommended items but this time it did not fix the problem.
I hate it when I`m at the mercy of the garage shop and just how costly this will end up being.
8 weeks agoMOSCOOTER, That sounds like it could be a serious problem if it is leaking gas fumes. I guess it is better to spend a little to get it fixed right rather than being blown all to hell from a gas explosion. Plus the smell of raw gas in a vehicle is pretty noxious too.
8 weeks agoI did mean to say Excursion. My 2014 F150, 5.0 liter, 4x2, gets 19 MPG everywhere. I`m real happy with it. 28 gallon tank I fill about every 10 weeks. The stores, bars, and restaurants are 5 miles or less from my house. I do my shopping of any type on Amazon using Prime and my wife drives me in her car on Friday and Saturday nights to the bars and eateries. Life sure is simple when you get old. Medical schitt is no fun though. Oh well!!!

Well I guess it`s time to go squirrel hunting again. It seems that it has cost me over $500 in last couple of months that I now find is/was due to f*&^king squirrels.
The check engine light and subsequent code said I had a massive emissions leak. There are 3 items recommended to resolve that kind of problem and I replaces all three to no avail. So, that required a smoke test to find out where the emissions leak was occurring and that showed the leak to be on top of the tank
Now I`ve been shown the pic after the tank was dropped and it clearly shows that a rodent (squirrel) had gotten up on top the tank and decided to gnaw on the vent line coming out of the tank.
So, they repaired the vent line and hopefully I will now be able to get it to pass inspection and re new my registration. All in all, this has cost me over $500.
8 weeks agoMoscooter, I hate fu@@ing squirrels, they gnawed on my house around vents into the attic. I get on a spree around here now and again and I kill the hell out of them. But some time I think when I trim down the crop, I just get more migrating in from somewhere else. But squirrels can be very destructive around a house.

Yes they can........several years ago here, I went out to grill a steak on the grill. I have a large propane tank that supplies fuel to my gas logs in the fire place. I had them route a gas line to my grill on the back deck so I didn`t have to screw around with those small propane tanks.
So, that day........I go out and flip the lever to allow gas to flow to the grill and all I get is a "hiss" and and a gas smell. It turned out squirrels had decided to munch on my rubber coated gas line from the deck floor to the grill itself.
Contacted the Propane company that I get my propane delivered from......they asked are you down in the Sunset Beach area?? I said YUP. They said we`re gonna install a stainless steel gas line for you as we have had multiple problems down there for the same reason.
That was at least 10 years ago, and my stainless steel gas line to the grill has had no more problems.
