October 21, 2004I've got a Garmen V mounted on our 04 Ultra, I will get some pictures up on the site this weekend. I've got a Ram mount that has a U clamp with a rubber ball that is all that is left when I pull the GPS off, of course I have it hard wired so the wiring is there but you really don't notice it.
October 21, 2004I bought my wife a Magellan for her car. Pricey at $1100, but I love it. Portable, 12 volt lighter adapter or 110. I will take it to Sturgis with me next year. Maps where you are and tells you where the nearest gas station or restaurant or HD stealership will be. You can select a male or female voice "Right turn, one half mile ahead."
October 21, 2004I use the Ipaq Navigation system. It works great. The unit sits in my top box and transmits the satellite data via BlueTooth to my Ipaq5555 which I keep in the windshield box/pouch. I hook the Ipaq 5555 speaker out put jack to the stereo input and can get audio directions over the stereo. If I need to, I can pop the Ipaq out of the pouch and see live map directions.
October 21, 2004I'm looking at a Magellan Road Mate 700 right now, but I can't seem to figure out how wire a 12v adapter onto my Dyna. If anyone has any ideas, or a link to any info, I'd sure appreciate any help I can get.
October 22, 2004I just bought a Garmin 2160 (awesome!). I used the Ram mount and it works great. Also bought the Garmin Motorcyle power cable and it hooked directly to some connectors under the nacelle. I have a pic in my gallery of the whole setup.
October 22, 2004I have an old MAP330 from Magellen and the handlebar mount cradle. I have used it on long trips with no issues and it worked well. Much better units out there now, but you can still get a good unit for less then $300
October 23, 2004NAVMAN makes GPS sleeves for various PDA's. I have one for my Ipaq. Good way to save some cash and carry your PDA around with you.
November 1, 2004I have the street pilot 3 with color screen and sound. The sound is an awesome feature when the sun is shining on the display. Visibility is the biggest problem. Try them out outside before you buy.
November 1, 2004I use a Megellan Sportrac. I like the small physical size. I cut off a leather flashlite holder, like hangs on your belt. I put a CB mike button on back. I cut out the front, the size of the window on the GPS. I never use the external CB mic, so, I use the bracket that was intended for it. I did dye it black. Don't look too bad and works perfect. The wire, runs through the slit in the bottom, over to the w/s pouchs, poked behind these, and plugged into the cigarette lighter. I know this sounds really "rednecked" but it works and takes up very little room. Also easy on and off.
November 1, 2004I have a great road navigation system...it's called a map. I highlight my route, put the map in a plastic baggie and secure it to my gas tank with magnets. Works rain or shine. For audio directions, I put my wife on the back with the map and she tells me where to go. Cost is neglible and if a lose components, they're easily replaced.
November 4, 2004I have a Magellan Color GPS. I fastened it to my windshield. I also ran a wire from a fused source under the seat to the space behind my tins ('03 Fatboy) with a connector. Now when I take the windshield off I can unplug the 12v power from the GPS unit and leave the bracket fastened to the windshield.
Let's me have it both ways.....clean look when I take the windshield off and a powered bracket for the GPS when I take longer trips. Works great.
