November 13, 2004When you wash the bike, how do you handle the saddlebags?? Do you cover them, just wash them, or??
November 14, 2004I wash them just the same as the rest of the bike. I do treat them once a month with Harley's leather dressing, and they look like new. I assume you are talking leather saddle bags.
November 14, 2004By the way Penrod welcome to the Zone.
November 14, 2004Yes I am talking about the leather bags. Thanks for the reply and the welcome
November 14, 2004I wash mine too...
just ensure that no water/soap... etc lingers in the bottom of the bags... also during storage.... (soon... I know.....) gotta stuff some plastic bags in the sadllebags to keep their shape...
November 14, 2004I take mine off when I wash & clean with saddle soap then dress them with Harley leather dressing.
November 14, 2004Penrod!
Welcome to the zone!
What bike do you have? Roadkings have removable bags (thats what I do). Leather isnt water proof so I wouldnt wash them. I will wipe em with a damp cloth to remove dust etc or clean em with a high quality leather cleaner. Then treat em with a mink oil (that helps em resist water).
November 14, 2004take them off if it's a RK....no other way to clean the rear wheel
November 14, 2004My bags are easy on; easy off. I never wash them. I do keep them clean and condition the leather regularly.
November 14, 2004I have a 2000 Fatboy with the hard factory bags (leather covered). They are not easy on and off.
November 15, 2004Nor are mine penrod. I wash and dry them right away, and give them a liberal application of leather dressing. Like bibber said, get the soap off. Get em dry and treat them nice! Welcome
November 15, 2004Penrod,
Welcome! I have a fatboy withthe leather covered hard bags as well and they definately are not easy on easy off. I wash the bike withthe bags on, dry them thoroughly inside and out and then rub them down with Harley Leather dressing. They sta great looking by using the dressing.
