February 24, 2006A couple weeks ago I was putting on a new extended brake lever on my 99 Heritage. I was having trouble getting the cotter key out and ended up slipping up and hitting the front fender with the tip of the needle nose pliers. Well I put a ding in the fender and chipped the clear coat. It doesn't appear that the paint is chipped. I'm wondering if anybody would have a ballpark figure of what I can expect to pay to have fixed. I'm thinking the ding can be worked out and sanded, re-cleared and be good. What do you think?
February 24, 2006Scooter,
I have the same kind of ding “dropped socket” when I was in a hurry to do something & didn’t put towels over the fender. In my case I decided “not” to try & fix the ding - I have myself convinced that only I know where it is.
If that doesn’t work for you, I’d go to a couple of shops & get there points of view. If I had a choice – it would be bike painters first, classic car painters second & high end repair shops for auto’s third……
Try to get good info before jumping one way or the other – remember you only get one shot & it’s not time for “OJT” on the repair…..
Of course, assuming you don’t want to go that way or it gets hosed up – you should have a real good chance of snagging a front fender on eBay – especially in black.
February 24, 2006Thanks Duece2002,
I chipped the clear coat about half the size of a dime. I'm going to clean her up this weekend and get a better idea of how bad it is. She's covered in dust right now. Maybe I'll snag a pic and post it up on Sunday.
February 24, 2006Mine cost 150.00 to do. Single color, HD paint and body work around the brackets. Expect to pay @ 150 to 200.00...
April 22, 2006I had the same type of ding. I Had the Dent Doctor work it out for 80.00.
They use special tools and work the dent out from the back.
The paint wasnt broken so I got away cheap.
Check the phone book for paintless dent removal, PDR or ask your local body shops and car dealers.
