March 27, 2010Has anyone heard if the helmet law in Myrtle Beach has been changed back to no helmet required for riders over 21?
March 27, 2010
I know they reviewed it again, but I don`t recall if any changes were made. I`ll look into it and maybe McG knows. Between us, we can find out.
March 27, 2010No changes have been made to the noise or helmet laws. They still don`t want bikes in Myrtle Beach. However, the Bike week happenings are going to happen on the south and north ends of the Grand Strand (this is what this area is called). There weren`t many bikes last year and I would guess we`ll get the same amount this year - probably about 100,000. Sounds like a lot but when your used to 300,000 the place seems empty.
I will happily meet and greet any and all at Poo`s at 4 o`clock wed. thu. fri. and sat. . My beer girls await.
And just maybe VT will show up to see his little blond friend again !!!!!!
March 29, 2010Is anyone going the the Spring rally in Myrtle Beach. My buddy went to Daytona and he said the crowd was way down from previous years. He thinks it was the cold weather and the down economy.
March 29, 2010I am going to MB spring rally, I was also in Daytona. It was cold and i thought the crowd was way off. I posted some pictures here ,did you see them? I actually enjoy Myrtle Beach better with the crowd down, I can get around and do what I want to do without waiting in line.
I have been going to Myrtle Beach rally for a long time and the crowd now is like it was back when I first started going. These old geezer property owners in the Myrtle city limits are the ones raising hell about the noise and the traffic. I just wonder If they realize how much money they are loosing by ruining the Harley rally , which by the way has been going on the past 70 years. Also, If 300-400,000 cars showed up on this same weekend to vacation in Myrtle would that be a problem. Actually the motorcycles take up alot less room. The bikers spend far more money than normal tourist and tip the waiters and waitresses much better than the regular public do. They do not care if they are making some of the small businesses have to close because they depended on revenuses from bike week to enable them to stay open year around.
I am still going, I do not want to give the town of Myrtle Beach the satisfaction of running me off and ruining a 70 year old tradition "Myrtle Beach Bike Week". I will have a good time there whether 50 people show up or 500,000.
March 29, 2010I agree with you VThunder. I have been going for the past 4 years and have seen a significannt drop in attendance. I could not believe it when we pulled in the the south Harlety Dealer and there was parking spaces in the parking lot. We normally had to park in the open field behind the vendors. My wife and I have stayed at the same hotel each year. The hotel is the Camelot by the Sea and we love the hotel and they are very friendly to bikers. I had a long convesation with the hotel manager last year and they hate what the city is doing to their revenue. I also talked to many of the restaurants that we go to every year and they love the bikers. They tip well and have seen vey few causing any trouble. I still love going so I am with you and am still going.

March 29, 2010Scoot,
You be there anyway or damn near at it, I started not to come this year ,but I do not want to give those SOB"S the pleasure of running me off with a few changes.
Hell, the schitt bacfired on them anyway, they did that to get rid of sport bike week mainly. And they are still showing up in force from what I have heard.
The only thing that will be significanly different besides Myrtle Beach`s laws to curb the events is that the number of vendors will likely drop dramatically. They will not show up in big numbers if the crowd of bikers keep being low, and the city and county are changing how long they can set up and restricting the number of permits they give out. There were only 42 permits given out at the fall rally for vendors I was told.
March 29, 2010
Good catch VT....Don`t remembe the vendor numbers from last weeks paper, but you are right on, the requested permits so far is waaaaaay down from prior yrs.
Gee, do ya think that `ol RatHole will still be trying to charge big $$$ just to ride into their parking lot and drink their beer
March 29, 2010If they are charging an entry fee, I told them last fall that it was the 3rd and last time I was paying to get in. In the fall when I met Mcg over there that day there were only about 15 people in the stands.
I told them then that I was not into South Carolina politics and I would not come there any more if I had to pay to get in. I also asked how many of them had moved into MB and they said none of them. So I asked if new people are not moving in why do you think the vote will be any different in the election , they could not answer ,but saw my point. But they still vowed the mayor would be voted out, Duh! no new voters it did not happen the same mayor got relected.
Phuck Em!!!! I`ll go elsewhere.
