December 30, 2010I need some advise on my 2006 ultra. I have 57,000 miles and I am ready to do some work with the cams. I have decided to change over to gear drive instead of replacing or staying with the chain & tensioner. Looking at the S&S kit for my bike and it is a stock 88 with rineharts, SE filter & USB power commander. I am considering three different cams, 510G -- 570G -- 585G-- I have 204`s in my deuce and I have been well pleased with the performance. My question is which one of the three S&S cams would be comparable to the 204`s or what set would do good with my desription of the ultra? I ride two up in the Mountains 95% of the time. Some professional advise will be appreciated. Lachinka

December 30, 2010the 510 are probably the closest to the 204s.
you may want to look at the andrews tw21g it maybe better for your riding style. I think it will be a little stronger in the lower rpm range where you would need it two up and in the mountains.

I`ve lost track as to when HD changed out the crank bearing style and thus ended up with many that had more "sloppy" tolerances.
Tattoo can tell ya , but you need to understand your "runout" I think so as the (gear drive) setup works OK and is not too noisy, etc.
December 31, 2010As I have been reading in the forum it looks like I need to check the runout. I am not familiar with the procedure to do so. Maybe some one could give me some advise on how to do so. I have in the past found many members on the site that are knowlegable and give good advice. I started to buy the cam set but holding off until I am sure on what one to go with.
December 31, 2010My personal opinion is upgrade to the Hydraulic tensioner upgrade kit, part# 25284-08 for $429 you get the upgraded tensioners, oil pump, billet camplate. then you dont have to worry about runout being more than .003", we install many of these upgraded kits and its a great set up. I run that set up on my 113" 2006 FLHX.
December 31, 2010The 510,s dont come on till about 2200 ....
December 31, 2010Hey Tatttoo, thanks for the opinion on replacing the cams. Also thanks for the replies from the other HZ members. I value your opinion and may go with the set up that you suggested. I have made a list of what I think would complete my job of replacing cam & Hydrulic tensioners if you could think of anything else that I might need or should buy let me know.
204`s cam part# 25149-00
SE inner cam bearings part# 24017-10
Hydrulic cam plate kit part# 25284-08
Cam installation kit part# 17045-99D
SE Quick install adjustable Rods part#18404-08
Cam Spacer kit part# 25285-08
I was not sure what all is included in the cam installation kit so I added the inner bearings to the list. Also not sure which adjustable rods would be the ones that would be best used. While I am thinking of it should I consider replacing the lifters? Thanks for all your help. Lachinka
December 31, 2010keep the stock push rods, save some money, if you dont "need" the adjustables, if your doing the work yourself. other than that its probably a wash on the money side, labor/parts.
And I have the upgrade kit on my bike, great way to go.
