January 13, 2020I still have my 2001 Toyota Tundra that I bought brand new in January 2001. It has over 250,000 on it and it still looks pretty good and runs real good. I have already put new shocks and struts on front and back and coil springs. I cleaned it up inside pretty good, the interior is still in great shape. I have a good set of Michelin tires on it and it rides great, I have fairly new mufflers on it and I put headers on it a long time ago, so the performance is pretty good. The 4x drive still works good on it and all the accessories are in great shape, radio, cd player, and all work good. It has a new windshield in it, and new brakes and rotors on front, and good drum shoes on back. I ordered a new tailgate already installed that and two new front fenders and a new front bumper with brand new fog lights. I am having the bed done in Line-X and all of the fender flares and bumper trim and mudflaps done with line-x, and the rear bumper line-xed . Then I am going to fix all the little dings which are very few and touch up, and then clear coat the whole thing. I think this truck should last me as long as I am driving, I know where it has been and how it has been treated and I just can`t see buying a new truck when I got a great one already. The personal property taxes here on a new truck would probably be over $1000 not to mention the increase in insurance premiums. I would like to have a new truck but it is just a Want, not a Need!!!!!!!!

January 13, 2020Sounds like a good plan, VT. I would LIKE a new pickup as well but can`t afford to pay $60-70K for the one I want.
January 14, 2020I hear you Dave, both of my boys have new Dodge ram longhorn editions and both are paying $1200+ personal property taxes a year. It just doesn`t seem right to me having to pay taxes like that on something you are supposed to own. We have let the government get way too BIG!!!!!
My 2001 Tundra still cost me around $275 personal property taxes and I think that is a rip off, that truck is going on 20 years old.
The only people that don`t value this Tundra worth a schitt is the auto dealers when you want to trade it in on something.
We got warm but a very rainy day here today, I can hear it raining outside now, so it has to be coming down really hard if my Deaf azz can hear it. LOL!
January 14, 2020Dave, have you ever used one of those crossbar dent puller? where you use hot glue and glue the plastic tip to the center of the dent and then you use the crossbar with a screw the screw attaches to the plastic tip and goes through the crossbar and pulls outward on the dent, and supposedly pops the dents out.
January 14, 2020I hear you on trade in value, VT. They say my 02 quad cab GMC Sierra (fully loaded) is worth $5,000. They sell for twice that, but don`t confuse them with the facts.
I`ve seen them used but never tried one, VT. I have a few dings in mine and I thought about trying one. They look promising.
January 14, 2020I bought one at Harbour freight today Dave, I will try it out tomorrow and I will let you know how it works.
January 14, 2020Nice. I`m curious to hear how it works.
January 14, 2020Sounds cool VT. Be sure to let us know how it goes. I found out 3 years ago that a new truck, loaded 4x4 and short bed was gonna cost me close to $70,000. Which was just a little over my budget. So I bought my 2014 2x4 with as little electronic crap as possible for $30.000. Sales tax here in SC is capped at $500.00. But each year I have to pay a property tax based on its value. My wife pays the bills so I don`t remember the exact number but I think it is about $500. For another $5000.00 I could have a a 4x4 but I don`t tow a boat anymore and it doesn`t snow here (that`s on the ground for daytime. I bought it with 40,000 miles on it 3 years ago and now I have 47,000 on it. Everything here is real close. It sure is gonna outlive me.

Toyota makes a pretty tough truck. I bought one brand new back in 1980 in Kingston, N.Y. It was one of those smaller 1/2 ton trucks and it had 4WD and great A/C.
I towed a large Skeeter Bass Boat with it. Had to switch it into (low range) in the transfer case and 4 wheel drive to yank the boat out of the water. Loved that little truck.
January 15, 2020Toyota makes a great truck, at least they used to. Mine is 19 years old and has been pretty maintenance free the whole time. I know of people who have those old Toyota trucks like you mentioned moscooter and they are still on the road, some with over 400,000 miles on them and still running strong.
I like the New larger tundras but I do not know if they have the quality built into them now like mine did back in 2000.
January 16, 2020Don`t forget guys - when you you rebuild them things - check the transfer case and the rear-end for oil. Some times they are a little low.
