2 weeks agoI think a lake vacation is real good for the soul. A little swimming, boating, and just laying around with good folks. It don`t get much better.
2 weeks agoWe never did anything fun like that Dave, all of our class reunions are picnics now on Saturday night, with only about 30 or so show up and then they eat and leave. I guess that is what you get from class reunions when you get in your 70`s.
We have never really had a very good turnout for our class reunions anyway, I have attended everyone since we graduated, the only one that had a good turnout was one where we combined with another local high school and had them both together.
I usually enjoy these outings, but some people we graduated with have never attended , but the ones that do come have always came and I enjoy seeing them when we have the reunions.
2 weeks agoI agree McG. A time to recharge the batteries. Good times.
2 weeks agoWe have some folks who have never attended as well, VT. I was doing the military thing for a couple of them but we have a decent showing for the most part. We don`t wait for the ten year all the time, like this year. Just an excuse to get together with friends.
2 weeks agoUntil my oldest son became an instructor in San Diego - he was on the same ship for a number of years. They have a ship re-union every year in some other place in the country. That way every can go when it is near them. Those guys are pretty close and lots of them keep in touch. My class re-unions aren`t good. I went to 25 and 50. Most of the folks I was really friendly with didn`t show. Oh well!!!!
2 weeks agoInteresting. Our close seems pretty close. I`m not great friends with all of them but then I don`t really care either!LOL
2 weeks agoI never had a military reunion. I couldn`t wait until I got out and never had any desire to go back and remanisce ever how you spell that word. I only have seen one guy I served with one time since I got out, and he lives up near DC. I was in that area knew about where he lived and I looked him up. Spent a few hours with him, he never called me after that and I did the same for him, never called him again.
People are for the better part so caught up in their own lives anymore that they just let families and friendships fade away and worry about themselves. Just the way I see it!!!!!!!!!
2 weeks agoI`ve met a few guys that I have been stationed with or deployed with, VT. No real reunion except for the annual EOD Memorial and Ball. Tons of guys from all 4 services there.
2 weeks agoDave, were you ever in the Phillipines? I was stationed at Clark AFB in 70-71. I know they shut that base down after that volcano erupted pretty near the base there. We used to have earthquakes there all of the time, it was worse than California.
I took basic at Lackland AFB in Texas and then went to Vandenberg AFB where I was for over two years.
2 weeks agoNo, VT. Never made it to PACAF at all. I wanted to go but the assignment folks didn`t agree. We had a couple of guys show up at the Eglin EOD shop after Mt Pinatubo blew in the 90s.
2 weeks agoI was in the security police, did very little guard duty in the P.I. I worked in merchandise control on a desk job, I issued ration cards and was in charge of all of the purchase records we kept where people made big purchases or sold items on the local market. I would put people on Admin. Hold if they had purchased items in the px and then sold them on the black market without paying the taxes on them. Interesting job to say the least.
