April 12, 2018Well I went and painted the tour pack tonight, lots of coats, silver, pewter, dark red cherry. Then I shot a whole can of clearcoat over the top. it does not shine. I guess I should have sanded it before I clearcoated it, but I was afraid I would take out the metallic. The color came out pretty good , but it looks more like that dull denim look that Harley has instead of the gloss shiny finish. Guess I will leave it alone for now, it should be ok to travel. left it at friends garage to dry overnight.

April 12, 2018Do not know why it flipped that picture sideways it is not like that in my gallery
April 13, 2018If the paint hasn`t flashed off the clear sometimes just soaks in. I don`t know how long you waited though. It looks like a good match though. You`ll have to wait 24 hours (or more. No difference at this point) and maybe wet sand it and shoot the clear again. They didn`t give you the satin clear did they? Just a thought.
Off to AZ Bike Week in Phoenix!
April 13, 2018Enjoy, Dave it is the same clear that I shot the helmet test with. It should have dried shiny. I may have tried to do it way too fast, I did not touch it to see if it was dry. I put many, many coats on within a 2-1/2 hour period. The guy that owned the garage used to paint, he seemed very reluctant to even help tell me anything, and I felt rushed to get out of there. At this point I may just call it good and then maybe do the wet sand and clearcoat later.
You have a good party!!!!!!!!!
April 13, 2018Just got home from golfing, it was such a pretty day, I could not pass up the chance. And I played pretty good I shot 37 on the front nine and 43 on the back nine. That is 8 over par , not bad for an old guy, I also had 3 birdies on 3 holes , for you non golfers a birdie is 1 shot under par on a hole. Enjoyed the outing , won a bunch of quarters, but not much money overall maybe $3 or $3.50. Dave I hope your weather for the rally is as pretty as it is here right now.
April 13, 2018Sounds like a good day out VT. I`m a lefty and usually play just like Happy Gilmore then have a few and all is well
April 13, 2018Thanks Tippy , I am not a bad golfer, I ended up with a 13 handicap last year in the senior league, but I am better than that most of the time. Was a good day though, beautiful day but very windy all day, gusting pretty good at times. The pollen off the pine trees looked like yellow clouds rolling off those evergreens. I am posting another picture of the tourpack lid, I am using 3m ultra cutting crème and it is doing a good job smoothing out the finish and bringing out some shine. Just taking my time, buff a little rest a little, do not want to get in a hurry and screw it up.
April 14, 2018Well I am still working on that paint job, am not satisfied with it, have been buffing and using a extra fine scotchbrite pad on that thing today, am tired of rubbing. Think I am going to put one more coat of the red on the bottom part, then fine sand that after it dries for about a day, and then clearcoat both parts again. The color is not that bad, but the bottom part has some spots that need a little more red. And after I ine sand the bottom part again, it should be smooth enough to get a good shine with the clearcoat.
April 14, 2018ONe reason I want to scuff it and redo it is that the bike is a lot shinier than the tourpack, so I need to get the clear on it rght.
April 14, 2018Yeah, I had a great time. Thanks, VT. Glad golf went well!
It sounds like you have it really smooth. Should be a matter of another 3 or so coats of clear. Hope that goes well.
April 14, 2018Hope I get it right this time Dave, thanks. And I am glad you had a good time. The clearcoat on the bike is just so deep and shiny looking, I decided to try it again. Although it is a detachable piece, I do not want it to look so different from the rest of the paint. Well I am wore out, did some other work around the lawnmower and yard today, so I am going to bed. Glad you are home safe. And BTW no one else has showed up here from the 3 I talked to, JTShawg, I contacted by facebook today and asked had he tried to log in and he said no he had not. Have not heard from Olblue yet, he had just got home from Florida ,had been there since Oct. so he said he would try and get back on when he caught up getting settled back into his house and gets his computer fired back up. And Moscooter is not back from florida yet, but I am not giving up on them, hopefully we will see them here soon.
