We lost power at 330 Friday afternoon and finally got it back Sunday night at 715. I still have A/C problems, but all other power OK.
Got out yesterday to Lowes at stateline. Their grocery and gas were both open. Loaded up on stuff and got gas for my generator too. Lots of trees and limbs down and over 170 roads are out across the state due to bridges out and/or flooding conditions.
Major work to clean up around the yard here.
12 weeks agoI kinda figured you had lost power, when I didn`t hear anything else from you and that hurricane parked right there a few miles from you. Glad you are ok. We are currently getting rain here in Va. from remnants of that storm. Looks like North Carolina, got the schitt kicked out of them.
as far as I know I-95 and I-40 are still closed down there. My mother-inlaw has been moved 3 times since that storm started because of flood waters. The las I heard yesterday is that she is in a church down there somewhere in Fayetteville. She lived in Fayetteville with my sister-in-law for a couple of years and and was put into an assisted living place about 3 years ago, and then another one about a year later.
Anyways good to hear that you guys down that way are still kicking!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, this storm has already set a record for rainfall in both Carolinas. Rivers will not crest until later on this week. Major flooding still to occur.
The Mexican crews are already making the rounds. Was out raking the driveway this afternoon, it looks totally green as there is so much of downed limbs/twigs/etc. covering it. New sod in both front and back are covered too.
Anyway, there were two trucks of these guys......one gets out and said they would rake up my driveways and yards. I said How much? Told him I was waiting to hear from some others also wanting the job. He says they can do it for $1500. Told him no thanks. Continued raking as they drove around the block and came back.
Now another guy gets out and comes to see me. Claims he is the boss man. Said his crew really needed to work and he would offer a better price. Told him I`d consider his offer, but would not sign up today as was still gonna listen to other offers.
So he gives me a discounted price of $1000 to do the job.
I told him thanks, would think about it.
Not sure just how many guys total were in the two trucks....maybe 6 or 7. Anyway, I figure they could have jumped out and knocked the job out in 3 hours or maybe 3.5 hours tops.
Not bad money if you can get it............Do the math.
12 weeks agoI guess they figured anyone living in your neighborhood was loaded with money and would not even try and do the cleanup job themselves. I am sure they will get some takers. Takes a low down SOB to try and gouge people monetarily when they have been hit by a disaster.
Last week up here you could not find any bottled water anywhere, these crazy Mf`ers bought out every jug case of water there was. Probably don`t even normally drink water. Now I bet some of them have enough to last them for years because they bought so much stocking up for the storm.
Tornadoes all around my area here today, still under tornado watch until 10pm. Some of the remnants of Florence coming through. I did not have any severe weather at my house, the closest tornado touched down west of here about 20-25 miles. I heard one time earlier that about 5 tornadoes touched down around the Richmond area today.
12 weeks agoGee VT - and I thought you were going to have to get your (ex)wife out running her chain saw and raking her half of it all. HaHaHaHaHa
11 weeks agoMcG, You are a real funny guy, when it is at the expense of someone else.. HA! Ha! back at ya!!!!!!! and I am just going through a divorce now, do not have an ex wife yet. Besides that it would be hard for her to run a chainsaw from her bedroom over the garage. That is where she stays about 90% of the time, and the rest of the time she is at the doctors and out eating with her friends and my youngest son. And I imagine I am footing the bill for all that eating out, since my dupont retirement check which I never see, all goes into the joint account which never has a balance. And My retirement check is over twice what her social security check is, btw that is the only check she gets, her disability stopped when she reached 65. Anyway all that schitt ain`t too funny to me right now when her and her lawyer are trying to rip me a new azzhole!!!!!!!!!

VT.......It kinda sounds like after all the past attempts at (maybe) getting a divorce. You are now in fact in the middle of (really) going thru with it.
If that is indeed the case, I`m hoping you have your OWN attorney involved to look out for YOUR side of the whole deal. If it`s your retirement check, you should consider moving it from going into a "joint" account over to an account that is just in your name only. You`ll still end up having to supply some level of financial support, but meantime, you gotta "stop the bleeding"..........of your green dollars.
11 weeks agoMoscooter, she has pressed the issue in the past and then backed off, this time I initiated the action. We are trying to settle on the details , bouncing the ball back and forth between our lawyers. I offered her originally this time 1/2 of house after sold 1/2 my 401k and half my dupont retirement. Then they come back and want $300 more a month because I make more than her on my social security . Plus they want to try and make me keep her as beneficiary of my life insurance and show proof of that she is still beneficiary every April 15th. She removed me as beneficiary of her life insurance many years back when she filed for divorce. They want to ruin me, and I am the one who worked the whole marriage and earned by far the most money and have always provided well for her and the family, the schitt just does not seem fair to me, I will loose over $20,000 in income and a lot on my 401k. Then from the proceeds from the sale of the house they want half that 2nd mortgage that she ran up to 30K to come from my part of the sale of the house. Just a never ending money grubbing on her and her lawyers end to try and screw me without the sex.

I call B.S. on the attempt to get more from you due to your larger Social Security benefit. She is ALREADY entitled to your (larger) benefit amount even after a divorce.
She and her attorney likely already know that and it`s just a ploy to get more per month from you.
I`ve sent you via email, the gov`t write up on Social Security that speaks to this very issue.
Sounds like to me your offer of 50% on the pension and 401K and house proceeds are more than fair. Even if the second mortgage funds were totally used by her only, it may be difficult for you to avoid paying half of that also upon sale of the house.
Also, B.S. on the beneficiary of the Life Insurance. She took you off of her policy, but you should retain her on yours??? Suppose you decide to remarry, wouldn`t/shouldn`t your new spouse become the beneficiary???
Make your own attorney earn his fees........Doesn`t sound like he has hit any home runs for you so far.
11 weeks agoVT - I was not laughing at you at all. At her because she seems to want 1/2 of everything. I just meant you should give her 1/2 of EVERYTHING. I told you a long time ago to stop putting one cent in her checking account. What you do is way over the top. You are too nice and she is gonna shove it where the sun don`t shine. You`re too good a guy. Her lawyer thinks because you pay so much now - in the future you can pay a lot more. You need to break her now while you are in control. Just McGinnis two cents.
